Tell me about Warehouse 13 and your role on the show.

Warehouse 13 was sort of the flagship show of the re-branding of the SyFy channel. The center of it is two secret-service agents who are plucked from D.C.to be the new investigating agents of a top-secret facility that houses mysterious and powerful artifacts from around the world that are imbued with some kind of supernatural ability that if placed in the wrong hands could ruin the world’s day. I play Claudia Donovan who is a young hacker who forces her way into the warehouse, which makes her too savvy to be released into the wild so it’s decided that her skill-set is indispensable and she becomes part of the family.

How do you think the first season went?

It takes eight days to shoot an episode and we shoot it months in advance so that specials effects are added and music and creative editing. So, the product that comes out months later is a lot of times different from what we remember as actors. That’s the piece that the world consumes, and none of us were prepared for the amazing fan reaction that we had. I think it broke some records in viewer ship for the SyFy channel, in females especially.

Where do you predict this show going?

It’s so hard to predict the public opinion, but I think we have a cornucopia of opportunities of season three. Unlike Eureka, Warehouse has a bit more mysticism to it. We can insinuate that an item from history has some kind of supernatural ability, like Harriet Tubman’s thimble allows you disguise yourself as someone else or George Washington’s teeth gave him powers of great oration. Also, we’re playing characters that are totally realistic.

What is your favorite artifact?

I really love Edgar Allen Poe’s pen. If you saw season one it has the power to manifest whatever you write. So, I kid, but if I had this I would write my multi-million dollar movie contract with it. I would draw a picture of my ideal home in Hawaii and then I’d wish for a thousand wishes!

How does it feel to be a star of a #1 show on its network?

Let me find the right word. Overwhelming, incredibly fortunate. It’s a fantastic ride. And to have people come up to us on the street and tell us they love our show is the cherry on top of an already wonderful experience. Getting to do what you love, you can never really call work.

Did you have one person or event that made you decide to go into acting?

The deciding moment that made me go into acting was when my mom caught me doing a Bill Cosby impression for our pool man. I am massively in favor of higher education; I’m in the process myself. I’m a sophomore. It’s important for actors to have other interests and expand your consciousness.

So how do you juggle classes with your film schedule?

Obviously the show has forced me to put things on hold a little. I had taken on a 16-credit course load and two weeks into it I booked Warehouse 13, but I didn’t want to drop all my classes. I had to drop my math class because you straight up can’t take a math class on the road, but I’ve done everything else on the road.

So what would be your other interest?

Oddly enough, I took a marine biology class last fall and finished at the top of my class because for whatever reason I really respond to the anatomy of a jellyfish. I may study film, too. Right now it’s looking like I want to learn how to crank the camera and run with the big dogs.

Is that something you’d eventually like to do is get behind the camera?

Well, unfortunately actors are disposable. Any time I go to an audition, there are 20 other people there who can do the same thing. That’s something that I remind everyone who’s trying to get in the industry is that it’s extremely competitive. So I want to bring a little bit of everything to the table; I want to be a Swiss Army knife.

You’ve been participating in some panels at ComicCon. Tell me about that.

I got to moderate the Eureka panel. It was a great MCing adventure. I’d never done anything like that before and I was worried about choking up in front of this room full of 4,000 people. Hearing the scream of the fans made my incredible nerves fall away. The thing is they’re all there because they love the show and want to see their favorite stars.

Before this show, is that something you would’ve gone to?

I had never heard of it before I did Warehouse. There was certainly nothing driving me there, but Warehouse 13 has given me such an opportunity to explore this whole world of fandom and obsession that I think is really cool. I feel really lucky to be involved in something that is so embraced.

Was the convention what you expected?

No. The geek meme now is very different from our image of it a few years ago. A geek is anyone with a strong interest in something. I think things like ComicCon are challenging stereotypes because it’s all types of people from all over the world coming to this even to connect with other people who are into the same things they are.

What’s your one guilty pleasure?

Lady Gaga. I’m normally a huge music snob and I follow movements of music. I think Lady Gaga and the image she’s cultivated is pretty brilliant.

Zac Brown Band

9/21 Following the humongous success of their debut album, The Foundation, ZBB is ready to hit the charts again with their newest release. The Foundation produced the band’s first five #1 singles and is one of Billboard’s Top 20 albums of 2009. Fans are “chompin’ at the bit” for a piece of this new album. With big timers like Jimmy Buffet and Alan Jackson lending a hand on the CD, it’s bound to be a hit! Alan Jackson joins ZBB on their first single from the release, “As She’s Walking Away,” a harmony-laced melody bound to impress listeners. Grab the next hit by ZBB in stores September 21!

Linkin Park A Thousand Suns

9/14 Look out rock fans, Linkin Park is back with another album sure to rock the airwaves! You can already check out the lead single, “The Catalyst,” which was released to the radio early August. The band’s aim with this album is to be “genre-busting,” “cutting edge” and experimental. After being pushed back for over a year, this album is ready to break through previous records set for the band. Earlier this year, they held a contest for fans to remix and/or rewrite a part of “The Catalyst.” The winner has their version featured as an extra track on the album.

Maroon 5 Hands All Over

9/21 The third studio album by American band Maroon 5 is described as “a killer hybrid of rock, pop, fun and R&B.” If that doesn’t make you want to run out and buy it, well then just stay home. The lead single released off the album is “Misery,” and the band has already released a second single, “Give a Little More.” Working with legendary producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange, Maroon 5’s skill was put to the test. The grueling studio hours have produced some amazing tracks that are sure to impress fans. Check out the new record, coming out in stores September 21.

Jimmy Eat World Invented

9/28 American rock band Jimmy Eat World is back for some more with this seventh studio album. Although categorized with a genre of bands many look poorly on, Jimmy Eat World has proven they can rise above the norm and impress their listeners with each new album. Their first single from the record, “My Best Theory” was released in early August. If you haven’t heard it yet, get on a computer and look it up! While preparing Invented the band also took some time to tour on a 1-year anniversary national tour for their hit album Clarity. Look out for more tour dates following this release!

It seems so American to celebrate our hard work by taking Labor Day off to lounge around and sip cocktails all day. But lo and behold, we’re not the only ones who like to commemorate our employment with strange and unique festivities. Check out these interesting international Labor Day spectacles from around the globe!

Puerto Rico

Just like Americans, Puerto Ricans celebrate the first Monday in September as Labor Day. But, they take our standard block parties and parades and turn them into full-blown fiestas unlike anything the most red, white and blue-bleeding American could ever dream of. Imagine your entire state coming together to barbecue, drink, beat the ever-loving crap out of piñatas and talk crap about their bosses. Now imagine doing all of that in one little town center. That’s your standard Labor Day in Puerto Rico… or a claustrophobic’s worst nightmare.

Prague

While many of their neighbors are busy reciting poetry and sharing kisses for Prague’s unofficial “lover’s day,” other citizens are off celebrating Labor Day by touting the glory and greatness of communism and the Soviet Union throughout the streets. It seems these Eastern Europeans like to honor their ability to profit from their natural talents by espousing a philosophy that forces them to share their earnings or else die. Of course, this makes as much sense as E proposing to Sloane on Entourage after she played him like a game of cards for five years.

Australia

Being a low-level employee is all about finding satisfaction in the “little victories.” That’s why they don’t necessarily celebrate Labor Day Down Under… instead, they honor the Eight Hour Day with excessive drinking and tons of parties. After a long struggle with “the man” for a shorter work week, Aussies were given leaner workday hours, which they considered such a coup, they made a national holiday to commemorate it. Then again, these are the same people who find entertainment in throwing an arrow-shaped Frisbee to themselves over and over again.

England

America’s ancestors are still bitter about our untimely departure from their parental reign, so it should come as no surprise that they – along with most of Europe – buck the trend of celebrating Labor Day in September by choosing to hold their holiday in May. Dubbed “May Day” and sometimes celebrated in November (go figure…), the Brits party hard with parades, crowning a May Queen and, of course, awarding the Maypole to one lucky labourer. And let’s be honest… what party is complete without an honorary metal pole and a parade in the onset of winter?
